This position within Automation Engineering of Global Asset Integrity and Turnarounds (GAIT) located at Houston Engineering Center (HEC) is to provide technical expertise to maximize production, improve plant yield, optimize energy usage, reduce carbon emissions, and improve operations stability, reliability and safety through the use of Advanced Process Control & Optimization (APC&O). Responsibilities include developing and automating Power BI dashboards to proactively monitor APC&O applications at global sites. Collaboration with various work groups worldwide is required to ensure maximum value is derived from APC&O applications. This is a high visibility position with ability to impact multiple global sites and lead or actively participate in several new global initiatives in value enhancement and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Technical lead for high value APC&O projects being executed within LyondellBasell's global manufacturing sites
  • Define and support DCS regulatory control strategies as required for APC applications
  • Consult and assist sites in developing and prioritizing APC&O projects and regulatory control opportunities based on benefit assessment
  • Provide technical consulting, formal and informal training, and development of documentation, standards and procedures in relation to the role
  • Provide technical expertise for new, revamp and maintenance of site APC applications and lead as necessary
  • Evaluate, test and develop execution strategy on new process control technologies that will drive differential outcome
  • Participate and lead in both internal and external APC&O networks to maintain strong reputation as an industry leader
  • Provide formal and informal mentorship to other site Control System Engineers to improve their skills
  • Evaluate new next generation AI based linear and nonlinear APC&O technologies to obtain more benefits and stay ahead of the competition
  • Lead cross functional team consisting of site engineers and operations, IT team, and global SMEs to develop KPIs for proactive and reactive monitoring of APC&O applications

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree, Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years Advanced Process Control experience in relevant petrochemical industry
  • Demonstrated experience with Advanced Process Control within petrochemical or polymer process is required
  • Understanding of process engineering theory and control theory fundamentals and have the ability to model and control chemical processes
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and teamwork skills to manage and successfully drive critical global initiatives and interface with and relate complex concepts/issues with all levels
  • Expertise with Aspen APC&O products (DMCplus and DMC3, Aspen IQ, GDOT/RTO, Aspen Plus) or Rockwell Pavilion (VOA, MPC)
  • Hands-on experience with distributed control systems (Emerson, Honeywell, Schneider, Yokogawa)
  • Hands-on experience implementing power BI dashboard
  • Hands-on experience automating scripts using python language, preferred
  • Process experience in polymer (PP and/or PE) manufacturing, preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients
  • Ability to manage multiple/changing priorities and drive for results
  • Ability to work with vendors and lead/manage projects successfully within schedule and budget constraints
  • Ability to be independent and innovative in identifying opportunities and driving initiatives
