Position: Afternoon Youth Support Worker Schedule: Monday–Friday, afternoons (approximately 2–4 hours per day) Location: In-home and school-adjacent support Start Date: Flexible We are looking for a caring, emotionally attuned support worker to work one-on-one with our 13-year-old daughter as she gradually transitions back to school. She is a bright, thoughtful, neurodivergent teen who experiences significant anxiety, particularly around school and transitions. The primary goal of this role is helping her feel safe, regulated, and supported in the afternoons after school. Academic support is not the focus. Emotional safety, predictability, and relationship-building come first. This role would be well-suited to someone with experience in youth support, autism support, mental health, education, or a related helping field. Key Responsibilities Meet her at or walk her home from school in a calm, reassuring way support emotional regulation after the school day (co-regulation, grounding, quiet presence) Help prepare simple snacks or meals together Gently support structured but low-pressure activities (creative, calming, or preferred interests) Assist with light clean-up and organization following activities or meals Provide consistency, predictability, and a supportive relational presence Communicate briefly with parents as needed about how the afternoon went What We’re Looking For Calm, patient, and emotionally grounded presence Experience supporting autistic youth, anxious teens, or neurodivergent children (formal or informal) Strong relational skills and ability to follow a child-led, low-demand approach Comfortable with routines, transitions, and sensory-sensitive environments Reliable, trustworthy, and respectful of family values and privacy Qualifications (Preferred, Not Required) Background in youth work, PSW, DSW, ECE, education, psychology, social work, or related field Experience with anxiety, autism, PDA-informed, or trauma-informed approaches CPR/First Aid certification Vulnerable Sector Check Compensation Competitive hourly rate, based on experience Private pay Why This Role Matters This position plays a meaningful role in supporting a young person during a vulnerable transition period.
