Biogen’s Decision & Quality Analytics Innovation (DQAI) team is part of Portfolio Leadership, Analytics & Insights (PLAI), which is under the Development department. The vision of the DQAI team is to deliver trusted insights that drive smarter decisions and measurable impact across the research, development and medical (RDM).<br><br>We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Associate Director of Data Management & Stewardship to join our team. This individual will take ownership of managing all aspects of our team’s data - from acquisition and stewardship to governance and cross-functional alignment. The role will ensure that our data foundation is robust, well-governed, and positioned to enable advanced analytics, including AI/ML, simulation, etc. and ultimately support critical portfolio decision-making.<br><br><strong>Key Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Develop process of overseeing the full lifecycle of PLAI data across research, development, and quality functions is accurate, accessible, compliant, and long-term stewardship sustainably.</li><li>Lead the acquisition and onboarding of internal and external datasets (CMR, KMR,..), integrating them into enterprise systems in line with governance and compliance standards.</li><li>Administer and optimize the Snowflake data warehouse; evolve the underlying architecture to support scalability, interoperability, and advanced analytics capabilities.</li><li>Define and monitor quality metrics, establish governance processes and SOPs, and maintain audit-ready datasets to enable trusted insights and regulatory compliance to support analytics, modeling, and portfolio decisions.</li><li>Partner with IT, Finance, PPM, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to harmonize data standards, enable linkage across domains, and drive enterprise adoption of best practices.</li><li>Identify and assess new data sources, anticipate emerging data needs, and lead initiatives to enhance architecture for AI/ML, and advanced analytics.</li><li>Act as the primary advisor for data strategy, representing the function in IT, AICT, and enterprise-wide data initiatives while influencing adoption of innovative, compliant solutions.</li><li>Translate complex data governance concepts across technical, clinical, and business audiences, negotiating adoption of enterprise-wide policies and practices.</li><li>Shape the future of function’s data ecosystem by anticipating regulatory shifts, emerging technologies, and business priorities.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Data Management, Information Systems, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.</li><li>10+ years of experience in data management within pharmaceutical R&D, with at least 5 years in cross-functional data leadership roles.</li><li>Deep understanding of clinical program data structures, including study-level, asset-level, and portfolio-level data.</li><li>Proven experience with clinical data governance, including firewalls between programs, restricted data access, and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GxP, GDPR).</li><li>Hands-on expertise in Snowflake and/or other cloud-based data warehouse technologies, with experience building and maintaining compliant data environments.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage and integrate external vendor data (clinical CROs, benchmarking vendors, real-world data providers, etc.) with internal enterprise systems.</li><li>Strong knowledge of pharma/biotech data flows, including interactions with functions such as Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Safety, Finance, PPM, and Commercial.</li><li>Experience establishing and enforcing data stewardship frameworks and ensuring high-quality, audit-ready datasets for decision-making.</li><li>Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical, clinical, and business audiences.</li><li>Proven ability to balance strategic oversight (e.g., defining data governance models) with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.<br><br></li></ul>Job Level: Management<br><br><strong>Additional Information<br><br></strong>The base compensation range for this role is: $176,000.00-$242,000.00<br><br>Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.<br><br>Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.<br><br><strong>Benefits<br><br></strong>In addition to compensation, Biogen offers a full and highly competitive range of benefits designed to support our employees’ and their families <em>physical, financial, emotional,</em> and <em>social well-being</em>; including, but not limited to:<br><br><ul><li>Medical, Dental, Vision, & Life insurances</li><li>Fitness & Wellness programs including a fitness reimbursement </li><li>Short- and Long-Term Disability insurance</li><li>A minimum of 15 days of paid vacation and an additional end-of-year shutdown time off (Dec 26-Dec 31)</li><li>Up to 12 company paid holidays + 3 paid days off for Personal Significance </li><li>80 hours of sick time per calendar year</li><li>Paid Maternity and Parental Leave benefit </li><li>401(k) program participation with company matched contributions</li><li>Employee stock purchase plan </li><li>Tuition reimbursement of up to $10,000 per calendar year </li><li>Employee Resource Groups participation<br><br></li></ul><strong>Why Biogen?<br><br></strong>We are a global team with a commitment to excellence, and a pioneering spirit.
