Job Description: 3D Cake Decorator (Fondant Cakes Specialist)

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled 3D Cake Decorator with strong hands-on experience in 3D sculpted cakes, fondant modelling, and custom edible toppers. The ideal candidate must have a strong artistic background, excellent attention to detail, and proven expertise in creating high-quality novelty cakes for both retail and corporate clientele.

This role is perfect for someone who is creative, passionate about cake artistry, and confident in producing premium 3D cakes that meet UK quality and food-safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. 3D Cake Decoration & Sculpting

Design and create 3D sculpted cakes in various characters, themes, and shapes.

Build internal cake structures using safe and stable supports for tall or complex cakes.

Carve cakes with precision to achieve realistic shapes and smooth finishes.

Apply detailed fondant covering, ganache smoothing, and sculpted finishes

2. Fondant Work & Edible Modelling

Create high-quality fondant decorations, figurines, characters, and 3D toppers.

Prepare and colour fondant/gum paste using professional techniques.Ensure all toppers meet UK safety and hygiene standards.

3. Cake Assembly & Finishing

cover cakes to achieve flawless finishes.Ensure stability and cleanliness of final products.

Collaborate with the design team to bring customer concepts to life.

Meet daily production schedules and deadlines for customer orders.

4. Quality Control

Maintain consistency in design, portioning, and finishing across all cakes.

Follow brand quality standards for Caker Street corporate and novelty cakes.

Conduct visual checks to ensure precision, stability, colour accuracy, and smoothness.

5. Client Customisation

Interpret customer briefs and design ideas accurately.

Provide creative suggestions based on theme, occasion, budget, and feasibility.

Work with sales/design coordinators to refine complex 3D cake ideas.

6. Hygiene, Safety & Compliance

Follow UK Food Hygiene (Level 2 or higher preferred).

Maintain a clean workstation, tools, and equipment.

Adhere to allergen, storage, and cross-contamination guidelines.

Properly label and handle edible and non-edible decorative materials.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

Minimum 2–4 years experience as a 3D cake decorator or fondant artist.

Proven ability to create complex 3D sculpted cakes and figurines.

Strong hands-on skills with fondant, gum paste, modelling chocolate, and edible paints.

Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Excellent artistic sense: 3D shaping, colour matching, symmetry, detailing.

Strong understanding of cake structure, stacking, dowelling, and supports.

Knowledge of UK bakery hygiene and food-safety standards.

Desirable

Diploma/Certification in Baking, Cake Decoration or Culinary Arts.

Experience making corporate cakes, logo toppers, and branded edible decorations.

Experience with airbrushing, edible printing, and advanced sugar craft.

Portfolio of previous 3D and fondant work (required during interview).

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £12.21-£14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
