We are seeking an experienced CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) to support our firm with IRS and state tax notices, compliance issues, and client resolutions. This role is ideal for someone who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and confident handling notices independently while guiding junior staff and VAs.

This position has a clear growth path into a senior or manager-level role as our notices and compliance volume continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities:

IRS & State Notice Review and Resolution

Review and respond to IRS and state tax notices (individual and business)Identify notice type, root cause, and required resolution

Prepare written responses, explanations, and documentation

Handle penalty abatements, balance due notices, missing filings, and discrepancies

Coordinate payment plans, compliance fixes, and follow-ups

Ensure all responses are accurate, timely, and compliant

Technical Tax Support:

Analyze transcripts, notices, and IRS correspondence

Identify errors related to filings, payments, payroll, or reporting

Review prior returns when needed to resolve notices

Support amended returns or corrections when required

Prepare cases for escalation or advanced resolution when necessary

Team Support & Guidance:

Serve as a technical resource for admin staff, tax admins, and VAs handling notices

Provide clear instructions and review notes for notice follow-ups

Support training and onboarding related to notice handling processes

Reinforce SOPs and best practices for documentation and tracking

Escalate complex or high-risk cases appropriately

Process & Department Support:

Ensure notices are properly logged, tracked, and resolved

Support internal workflows and timelines for notice resolution

Help improve notice handling processes and documentation

Step in as backup support for leadership when needed

Maintain organized records for each case

Growth Path:

Required Qualifications:

CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) required5+ years of tax experience

Strong experience handling IRS and state tax notices

Solid understanding of U.S. tax compliance and procedures

Experience reviewing transcripts and IRS correspondence

Strong professional judgment and attention to detail

Ability to work independently and manage cases end-to-end

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a tax, accounting, or CPA firm

Prior experience in notices, compliance, or resolution work

Experience with payroll, penalties, and payment plans

Familiarity working with VAs or offshore teams

Strong written communication skills for IRS responses
