Cybersecurity interns at Cox Enterprises are an integral part of the Cyber team and are provided projects and tasks that leverage knowledge gained from their academic studies, as well as challenge and build their interpersonal skills to prepare them for the working world post-graduation.

Cybersecurity exists to protect our business' critical information and technology assets from compromise and disruption so that our stakeholders and businesses can deliver on their responsibilities and ultimately continue to be profitable. We operate at all levels, from front line to senior executives, and manage a wide variety of projects across our portfolio. Many of the assets we protect are shared across divisions, requiring an understanding of the way we make money, as well as a servant leader mindset to build and maintain trust and influence decisions. We employ our diverse experiences and fit-for-purpose solutions to monitor and safeguard our assets.

Projects / assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with business, technical and other relevant stakeholders to understand current areas of security risk, control standards and requirements.
  • Support Cyber Defense initiatives that include improvements to security operations and supporting solutions, as well as threat detection and response capabilities
  • Support Cyber Governance, Risk and Compliance ("GRC") programs to improve the way we collect and action on metrics, onboard new supplier relationships securely, and manage data and privacy governance policies and capabilities
  • Support cloud security team through development and tuning of posture management policies
  • Integrate with DevOps teams to represent cybersecurity and help keep our code, infrastructure, and apps secure

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a graduate (Masters, PhD, etc.) degree program such as Information Technology (with a concentration in Cybersecurity), Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other related degree program.

Preferred Qualifications:

One or more of the following:

Exposure to Cyber Scripting experience (Python, Javascript, etc.)

Cloud computing experience with platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP

Business / process documentation experience

Leadership experience

Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel experience

Cybersecurity classwork experience is always a plus!

Intern/Co-Op sessions are considered temporary employment. No full-time employment commitments are made. However, depending on our business needs, some interns may be considered for a full-time position following the conclusion of the session conditioned upon the intern graduating from their academic program and being available to commence full-time employment at a specified time.

Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship.

USD 24.23 - 36.35 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly base pay rate is $24.23 - $36.35/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
