D.R. Horton, Inc.is currently looking for an_Underwriting Counsel_. The right candidate will be responsible for analysis of risk, research, interaction with agents, and making decisions on insurability of titles. *This role will support the western United States, therefore residing in the Central, Mountain and Pacific time zone is preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Make risk adverse, common sense underwriting decisions • Respond in a timely manner, to underwriting inquiries from agents • Research, analyze, and interpret statutes, regulations and opinions, court rulings by utilizing professional legal and compliance publications • Identify issues, establish transactional facts, apply legal principles and underwriting guidelines to reach a timely decision • Provide analysis and guidance on relevant federal and state statutes and regulations, court rulings, opinion letters to the agent network • Research/update new/changing laws/statute/regulations that could affect the risk of the company and communicate those effectively to agents • Participate in the agent underwriting review process • Support agency with recruitment process and retention of agents • Support Claims Department with state law analysis and state practices • Participate on cross-functional teams • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company • Ability to travel overnight • Responsible for creation and presentation of educational and underwriting materials for employees and agents • Prepare bulletins, alerts, memoranda, and other agent communications D.R. Required Qualifications Juris Doctorate Degree License to practice law Experience with title insurance underwriting or claims, preferably 3-5 years title experience Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications Proficiency with MS Office and email Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
