Your new Role...

Director, Social Media – HBO Max

When someone asks, “What house are you?” Do you instinctively think Hogwarts, Westeros, or Dune? Is your FYP filled with TV and movie memes? Do you live to discuss the latest episode of The White Lotus or debate Oscar wins like it’s a full-time job? Maybe you’ve been known to start a new series right before bed. If you live at the intersection of entertainment, marketing, and online culture—this could be your moment.

HBO Max is seeking a Director of Social Media to serve as editor-in-chief of the brand’s social presence. In this role, you’ll be the voice of HBO Max across platforms—shaping the tone, setting the agenda, and guiding the content strategy that represents our streaming brand online.

You’ll lead with the same confidence and cultural awareness that helped define our recent rebrand from Max back to HBO Max—an effort that earned meaningful attention. This position requires a deep understanding of both the prestige and legacy of HBO and the breadth of programming that Max offers.

We’ve proven that social media drives real business outcomes in entertainment. If you’re ready to lead at that intersection, we want to hear from you.

Your Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team of social strategists, editors, and community managers overseeing platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and more.
  • Provide strategic guidance, assign projects, coach team members, and ensure consistent editorial excellence.
  • Shape and refine social copy, storytelling approaches, and platform-native creative. Cultivate a culture of innovation, bold ideas, and editorial risk-taking that aligns with Warner Bros. Discovery’s brand vision.
  • Foster a forward-thinking, creative team culture. Champion new formats, emerging platforms, and breakthrough ideas that resonate with fans and set industry standards.
  • Analyze content performance and audience insights to identify growth opportunities. Use data to inform strategy and evolve the brand’s approach in real-time.
  • Transform key cultural and entertainment moments into standout social media campaigns. Define and evolve the HBO Max voice—how we speak, who we engage, and how we show up online.
  • Work closely with brand marketing, PR, and communications teams to ensure campaign work is social-first in both concept and execution.
  • Drive the creative vision behind platform-specific executions, including managing campaigns across the Warner Bros. and A24 film slates.
  • Identify strong ideas from across the team, champion originality, and deliver best-in-class work that sets a new benchmark for the entertainment industry.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8 to 10 years of experience at entertainment companies, publishers or agencies, and a portfolio of creative work that meets business needs and earns media coverage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing a team.
  • Strong writing and executive communication skills, with the ability to elevate social media’s role and build relationships across teams, platforms, and external partners.
  • Strategic thinker—balancing a deep understanding of online culture with a focus on driving growth, protecting the brand, and keeping audiences engaged
