For over 50 years, the MDTA has provided Maryland's citizens and visitors with safe, secure, and convenient transportation facilities. We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, and we rely on our organization's values, traditions, and – most importantly – our employees to achieve these goals.</p><p style="margin:0in;"><br></p><p style="margin:0in;"><strong><u>Nature of Work:</u></strong>The incumbent works in the Office of Engineering and Construction under the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)/Electrical discipline. The electrical project engineer will manage, plan, and design ITS and electrical work associated with transportation facilities, structures, and equipment. The incumbent will engage in large and complex engineering projects within a multi-disciplinary environment involving in-house engineers and outside consultants. The ITS and electrical work may include, but is not limited to: roadway lighting, tunnel lighting, sign lighting, power distribution systems, Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCTV), dynamic message signs (DMS), tri-message signs, Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), fiber optic networks, tunnel control systems (SCADA), traffic control systems, incident detection systems, and any related work. Duties for the position include, but are not limited to, the following:</p><p style="margin:0in;"><br></p><div style="margin:0in;"><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-left: 26.5px;"><li style="margin:0in;">Manage electrical studies;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Work as project manager for large capital projects in ITS and Electrical Engineering;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Design coordination and review of study reports and design drawings;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Review construction documents such as as-built plans, Request for Information (RFI), and submittals;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Review Scope of Work (SOW) of ITS/Electrical on-call tasks;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Work with different utility companies for power, energy, and communication requirements of projects;</li><li style="margin:0in;">Coordinate with ITS/Electrical engineers and other MDTA stakeholders in different tasks and projects and attend project-related meetings;</li></ul></div><div style="margin:0in;"><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-left: 26.5px;"><li style="margin:0in;">Prepare engineering cost estimates and man-hour estimates for ITS/Electrical tasks; and</li><li style="margin:0in;">Field visits to different facility locations with consultants/contractors as needed for various projects.</li></ul></div><p style="margin:0in;"><br></p><p style="margin:0in;">This position will be supervised by the <strong>Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)/Electrical Discipline Manager</strong>, or other higher-level engineering managers, depending on tasks assigned.
