We are excited to announce our 2026 Summer Internship program!

Our summer internship program runs from Tuesday, June 9th, to Wednesday, July 29th. The program is hybrid, with in-office work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we provide all necessary equipment to help you succeed in your role.

As an intern, you will work on real business projects, gaining exposure to various aspects of the company and having the opportunity to make an impact. You will also connect with Delta Dental employees across different business functions, helping you expand your professional network. Throughout the eight-week program, we’ll assist with resume and LinkedIn profile development and provide you with a LinkedIn Learning license. Interns will meet weekly to share experiences and learn from our business leaders. At the end of the program, interns will have the chance to have lunch with Delta Dental’s CEO.

Interns will be compensated at an hourly rate of $22.00.

Position Summary

The Human Resources Intern will support Delta Dental’s Human Resources team in improving the clarity, consistency, and effectiveness of HR communications and employee-facing processes. Working closely with HR leaders, the intern will participate in projects and initiatives that impact and improve the employee experience. The intern will gain hands-on experience with internal employee communication and process improvement initiatives. 

In addition to project-based work within HR, the intern will collaborate with other departmental interns on group assignments and attend learning sessions focused on the company, HR strategy, and the healthcare industry. This internship is ideal for students interested in employee experience, communication, organizational effectiveness, HR strategy, or change management.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Employee Experience & Communication Projects

  • Conduct audits of selected HR processes by collecting and reviewing related communications, templates, intranet content, policies, and forms. 
  • Develop Employee Communication Journey Maps that illustrate the current experience, identifying key moments, pain points, and improvement opportunities. 
  • Draft and refine HR communication materials, such as email templates, FAQs, manager guides, “What to Expect” resources, and process overviews. 
  • Support the creation of a comprehensive Communication Improvement Toolkit to enhance HR’s messaging and transparency. 

Research, Analysis & Documentation

  • Gather and consolidate information from HR Directors on existing processes, communication standards, and employee experience expectations. 
  • Analyze gaps in communication and recommend solutions that improve clarity, timing, and employee understanding.
  • Assist with documenting standard procedures and updating HR intranet content as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with HR Directors and business partners to validate findings, collect artifacts, and refine communications. 
  • Partner with interns across departments on cross-functional projects designed to broaden organizational knowledge and team skills.
  • Participate in information sessions and workshops that provide exposure to Delta Dental’s business model, HR strategy, organizational culture, and the healthcare industry.

Project Delivery & Presentation

  • Prepare and deliver a polished final presentation summarizing the intern’s findings, journey mapping, communication principles, and recommended improvements. 
  • Organize and hand off project materials, including all finalized documents, toolkits, templates, and communication drafts.

Intern Learning & Development Opportunities

During this internship, you will gain exposure to:

  • HR Communications & Writing for Employee Experience: Learn how to translate complex HR processes into clear, accessible communications that enhance employee understanding and reduce confusion. Practice writing email templates, FAQs, process guides, and toolkits.
  • Employee Journey Mapping & Process Analysis: Develop skills in assessing communication touchpoints, mapping end‑to‑end experiences, and identifying gaps or friction points that affect employee perception.
  • HR Strategy & Organizational Effectiveness: Gain insight into how HR Directors design employee experiences, support organizational priorities, and partner with business leaders. Light exposure to additional HR functions such as onboarding, development, or performance cycles for context only.
  • Project Management & Collaboration: Experience a structured project lifecycle: discovery, research, mapping, design, drafting, and final handoff. Collaborate across teams and present findings to HR leadership.
  • Professional Development & Industry Understanding: Participate in presentations, networking sessions, and workshops to learn about Delta Dental, the healthcare industry, and career paths in HR and communications.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, English, Business, Psychology, Organizational Development, or a related field
  • Relevant coursework or academic projects in communication, writing, employee experience, or process improvement is a plus
  • Experience drafting written communications, creating documentation, or conducting research preferred
  • Interest in HR strategy, change management, or employee experience encouraged
