InDesign Proofreader: Non-Fiction Book on Self-Publishing & Marketing

Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

I am looking for a meticulous professional proofreader to finalize a non-fiction book about the self-publishing industry. Unlike a standard word-processing job, this project requires you to work directly within Adobe InDesign.

The book covers the technical and business aspects of self-publishing, so a background in online marketing and publishing terminology is highly preferred. The manuscript is approximately 50000 words.

Required Workflow

• You must own a current license for Adobe InDesign.

• You will be expected to make edits directly in the InDesign file (.indd or .idml).

• You will ensure that the text remains perfectly formatted within the layout while correcting errors.

• You must be comfortable managing "overset text" or layout shifts that may occur during the editing process.

Key Responsibilities

• Correct all spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors directly in the layout.

• Ensure consistency in headers, sub-headers, and page numbering.

• Flag or fix any "widows" and "orphans" or awkward line breaks created by the text.

• Check for consistency in tone and industry-specific terminology.

• Verify that marketing terms (SEO, CPC, Funnels, etc.) are used and capitalized correctly.

Requirements

• Expert-level proficiency in Adobe InDesign.

• Proven experience proofreading non-fiction books, specifically in the business or "how-to" niche.

• Exceptional command of the English language and Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS).

• Familiarity with Online Marketing terminology.

• A high level of attention to detail regarding both text and visual layout.

Project Timeline

• The InDesign file is ready right now.

• I would like the final, error-free file returned as soon as possible.

How to Apply

• Please confirm that you have a current Adobe InDesign license.

• Briefly describe your experience proofreading non-fiction or marketing content

• Include your rate for this project or your hourly rate for InDesign work.

• Write the word "INDESIGN" at the top of your proposal so I know you have read these specific requirements.

I am looking for a long-term collaborator for future book projects. If you are a detail-oriented pro who understands both the "words" and the "layout," I’d love to hear from you!
