Job Title: Journeyman Lineman

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Under general supervision, with wide latitude for planning or laying out of working details with responsibility for results, must be willing and able to perform difficult and responsible tasks involved in the installation and removal of electric meters, services, and related equipment on customers' premises, connect and disconnect services at the pole, locate and repair all types of breaks in the electric transmission and distribution systems, answer electric trouble calls to customers' premises, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

  1. Trace and clear grounds and opens on series circuits.
  2. Test, switch, and inspect all types of automatic voltage regulating devices.
  3. Make routine check, inspection, test of relays, etc. on all automatic reclosing equipment.
  4. Refuse all classes of high voltage substations and line fuses.
  5. Make routine check, inspection, maintenance and test of substation network protectors, transformers, regulators, switching, control and related equipment.
  6. Conduct voltage, load, substation, electrolysis, ground and other special tests.
  7. Make complete insulation test on potheads, transformers, cables, bushings, etc.
  8. Act in capacity of supervisor when authorized.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must have worked for at least one year, and qualified, as an Journeyman Lineman, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.
  2. Know Company's safety rules, and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be willing and able to render practical first aid on or off the ground.
  3. Know the location of, and be willing and able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires.
  4. Supply personal tools used in work.
  5. Obtain/Maintain a valid Class A CDL
  6. Know city streets, and roads in rural sections.
  7. Have a thorough knowledge of city and state traffic laws.
  8. Have a thorough knowledge of Company regulations and state laws governing disconnects for nonpayment, repossession of merchandise and diversion of current.
  9. Have thorough working knowledge of electric circuits and equipment.
  10. Know Company's rules and regulations applying to service and meter installations, Underwriters' National Electrical Code, and any state or local regulations governing electrical wiring.
  11. Be willing and able to read and understand all wiring diagrams and blueprints in connection with the distribution system, meters, switchboard equipment, relays, controls and also related Company equipment on customers' premises.
  12. Know Company's electrical and mechanical tagging rules.
  13. Have thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of distribution system in the area assigned.
  14. Be willing and able to study, maintain and report performance of new equipment installed as related to the distribution system.
  15. Be willing and able to trace, locate and analyze difficult cases of trouble.
  16. Be proficient in the operation of recloser controls and regulator controls.

EEI Testin

One way that Entergy has found to identify and assess the abilities and skills needed for certain jobs is through pre-employment testing. If this position does require an EEI test, the type of test will be located under the qualifications section of the job posting. If you are invited to a test session, we strongly recommend you review and complete the practice test as well as review the testing brochure for your respective test.  The test brochure will give you critical information on the test such as time allocated and number of questions.  Also, keep in mind that the actual test is timed; you should practice timing yourself while doing the practice tests.
