Job Description Summary

  • The Mechanical technician role installs, tests, inspects, maintains, repairs, overhauls and calibrates mechanical equipment, ensuring the equipment is maintained in compliance with Chevron procedures and industry standards.
  • The role is also responsible for equipment safety, inventory management and ensuring the System of Record remains updated with relevant maintenance related information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver on work group goals, objectives and activities, understanding the operational workings of equipment, maintenance activities and processes to ensure seamless operations and minimal down time of critical equipment.
  • Identifying and resolving operational and technical problems involving mechanical equipment ranging from component level items such as pumps/seals to major rotating equipment such as Gas Turbine Generators/Compressors.
  • Safely executing routine and corrective maintenance and repair work
  • Maintain concise equipment records such as repair plans, torque values, lube oil analysis and repair history within the system of record.
  • Able to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – JDE Edwards E1 knowledge is desirable.
  • Function as a member of the emergency response team organization (ORT and Coxswain activities).

What You Will Bring
Qualification:

  • BSc / HND / OND (Second Class Honours, Upper Division/Upper Credit) in Mechanical Engineering and related discipline
  • Successfully completed training as a Mechanical technician within the Oil and Gas or petrochemical industry.
  • Completed training in the mechanical craft trade/technical field e.g. Mechanical Technician, Rotating Equipment Field Service Rep. (FSR).

Experience:

  • 5 – 15 years relevant post-graduation or equivalent post apprenticeship onsite experience preferably in the oil and gas industrial or engineering production company

Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Rotating and Fixed Equipment: Demonstrates extensive experience with gas compressors, gas turbines, diesel engines, pumps, cranes, and heat exchangers.
  • Analytical Skills: Capable of diagnosing defects in mechanical rotating and fixed equipment, formulating effective repair plans, and implementing changes in practice to prevent future failures
  • Complex Defect Analysis: Skilled in conducting thorough reviews and analyses of mechanical defects, especially when issues are complex and could result in extended downtime or LPO/flaring events.
  • Collaborative Approach: Effectively collaborates with leadership, subject matter experts (SMEs), and reliability analysts to develop comprehensive solutions.
  • Technical Interpretation: Proficient in reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings, blueprints, design manuals, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Effective Communication: Skilled in preparing clear and concise written and verbal reports as required.
  • Competent in the use of mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Process Safety Expertise: Knowledgeable in identifying and assessing process safety hazards and risks, with the ability to develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Asset Integrity Management: Possesses a strong understanding of asset integrity, particularly in maintaining the integrity of dedicated systems.
