InstaCare EMS is seeking new and experienced Emergency Medical Call Takers & Dispatchers to work from our Brooklyn headquarters located in Coney Island.

The Call Taker/ Dispatcher position is critical to the operations and assignments of ambulance resources to patients and clients. All communications flows through our Operations Center. This includes communication between ambulance crews, callers, hospitals, management and others. The position requires a strong team player with a professional attitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with hospitals, healthcare provider, facilities, patients, patient’s family members and patient caretakers’ to arrange ambulance transport
  • Verifies patients’ insurance coverage, benefits, and co-pays
  • Manages high volume phone calls
  • Processes credit card payments
  • Dispatches appropriate ambulance resources using radio codes and practices

Skills of the Call Taker/ Dispatcher:

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Familiarity with health insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
  • Excellent verbal/written interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effectively multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with personnel from multiple departments and divisions
  • Flexibility in scheduling flexibility

***This position is primarily for afternoon/evening shifts, however, due to the nature of the EMS industry we operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. May be asked to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed***

Qualifications:

  • Previous Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience, strongly preferred
  • Previous experience utilizing Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) systems or similar systems
