Online English Teacher (Young Learners)

Meridian English is seeking engaging, warm, and qualified teachers to deliver live online English classes to children primarily aged 5–9.

Are you a teaching assistant, nursery teacher, or primary school educator looking for flexible work? We are seeking enthusiastic and engaging educators to teach ESL and reading skills to young learners online. This role is ideal for someone with a strong grasp of primary-level grammar, phonics, and vocabulary.

You will be working with small groups, using Oxford University Press reading materials to build phonics, comprehension, and speaking confidence — all from the comfort of your home.

Flexible hours

Choose your preferred weekday slots (M/W/F or Tu/Th) or weekends (Sat/Sun)

Available teaching blocks:

  • Morning: 10:00–14:00 GMT
  • Afternoon: 15:00–18:00 GMT
  • Weekends: 11.30-13.50 GMT
  • Classes: 30 or 40 minutes in duration
    (adjusted for BST when applicable)

What You Will Be Doing

  • Delivering high-quality, interactive online classes for young learners
  • Teaching phonics, vocabulary and comprehension in line with early primary literacy goals
  • Adapting teaching approaches for learners who speak English as an additional language (EAL/ESL/ESOL/EFL)
  • Creating a positive, lively, and supportive learning environment
  • Attending occasional CPD sessions to stay up to date with best practices
  • Working closely with the wider teaching team to support student progress          

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with children aged 5–9 in an educational setting (e.g. as a Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Early Years Practitioner, or similar)
  • A Level 6 qualification (e.g. bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Minimum Level 2 Certificate in Education or equivalent
  • UK based
  • A warm, energetic presence and excellent spoken English

Desirable:

  • TEFL qualification (e.g. CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, 120-hour TEFL) — not required, as full training and ongoing CPD will be provided
