It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to provide our customers with the safe, reliable, affordable energy they depend on. **What does a Pre-Apprentice Generation Specialist do for us?** This is a training position, designed to prepare future Generation Specialists for work in a team-based environment. These individuals will learn how to operate and maintain a hydro plant and associated equipment. Under direct supervision, they will perform the following: + Assist Generation Specialists in performing the necessary operating and maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the area, plant, and facilities + Complete assigned tasks, including preventive and corrective maintenance on the power facilities, buildings, hatcheries, roads, parks, and other associated equipment as well as completing necessary upgrades + Demonstrate the aptitude to be promoted to an Apprentice Generation Specialist position + Aptitude will be demonstrated through on-the-job evaluations, a skills assessment and performance evaluations + If aptitude is not sufficiently demonstrated, termination of employment will occur Pre-Apprentices will be eligible to bid full-time, regular Apprentice Generation Specialist positions as they become available. If unsuccessful in obtaining an Apprentice position within 24 months of hire, they will be released from employment. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach, and climb multiple flights of stairs. Occasionally lifting items weighing 75 lbs. shoulder height and above; occasionally lifting items weighing up to 100 lbs. waist high and knee high. Occasionally using exertional force up to 50 lbs. to push/pull cable, etc.; Occasionally carrying items weighing up to 100 lbs. with two hands and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 75 lbs. with one hand. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and testing equipment and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and replace parts.
