About the position

We are looking for a Principal Product Designer to work on our Design team to define and lead a design strategy in close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to drive Subscription Growth across Dow Jones' brands. While this is an individual contributor role, you will be expected to direct and mentor other product designers and lead projects across our NYC and Barcelona offices and additional staff in Mexico. In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping the future of how we design and deliver subscription experiences that delight our customers and drive business impact. You will be a part of a cross-functional team of marketers, product managers, and engineers solving our subscription growth goals. You'll be responsible for strategic influence and driving alignment across multiple teams and the execution of highly crafted system-oriented designs powering our subscription flows, from acquisition to conversion to retention.

Responsibilities

  • Influence and own the delivery and outcome of high-quality end-to-end design solutions for our Subscription growth goals from a business perspective.
  • Be a strategic partner and work with other teams while navigating constraints, managing stakeholders, and communicating your work to executives.
  • Bring to bear industry best practices and visual design principles to your solutions with a grounding in data driven testing methodologies.
  • Understand the complex needs of marketing and brand differentiation across our brands while driving for consistency across platforms—while knowing when to intelligently deviate.
  • Contribute to the creation of visual patterns in our Design System.
  • Explore and validate solutions by creating prototypes for and actively participating in user testing and incorporate recommendations and analysis from our Research team.
  • Have a robust understanding of accessibility (a11y) requirements and how to best integrate them into your work.
  • Contribute to strategic growth of the wider Design team, including helping to set the vision for the team and company's creative work, while supporting the team culture.
  • Lead others in setting direction and scoping work accurately even with ambiguous, loosely defined projects.
  • Be a dependable teammate who treats everyone with respect.
  • Bring to bear your mentorship experience when it comes to fostering an inclusive culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Design professional with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience executing design on subscription-based products of any kind.
  • Strong grasp of UI, HCI, Accessibility and UX principles.
  • Expertise working on mobile, web-based and responsive design.
  • Expertise with component based design.
  • Expertise working with Design Systems.
  • Expertise working with Figma.
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your end-to-end Product Design skills.
  • Ability to lead and take initiative, balancing strategic goals with daily tactical opportunities.
  • Ability to present design work and supporting thinking effectively to stakeholders and senior leadership for review and feedback, in person and in written communications.
  • Strong proficiency with G-suite products and experience with professional collaboration tools such as Jira, Miro, Confluence and Airtable.
  • Comfortable in a hybrid working environment and know how to influence from a distance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the design of News or Financial Services.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and compliance.
