About the position

The Remote Fortinet/Network Engineer/SDWAN position is a contract role focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and efficient networks using Fortinet technologies. The role is fully remote, allowing collaboration with diverse clients on innovative network solutions, and requires advanced experience in the Fortinet suite and SD-WAN technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deploy network solutions using the full Fortinet suite (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, etc.).
  • Configure and optimize Fortinet SD-WAN to ensure reliable connectivity and performance for distributed networks.
  • Perform regular system upgrades, patches, and proactive network maintenance.
  • Monitor and manage network health, identifying and resolving performance issues promptly.
  • Utilize FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer for centralized management and analytics.
  • Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems using Fortinet solutions.
  • Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments, addressing potential risks proactively.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align network architecture with organizational goals.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for escalated network issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Train and mentor junior staff or client personnel on Fortinet technologies.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with the Fortinet suite (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAP, FortiSwitch, etc.).
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing Fortinet SD-WAN solutions.
  • Deep knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs).
  • Familiarity with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years in network engineering roles with significant Fortinet focus.
  • Proven experience designing and managing enterprise or multi-site networks.
  • Fortinet NSE 4 or higher required; NSE 7/8 strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a remote setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and integrating Fortinet solutions in hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN solutions from other vendors (Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.) is a plus.
