Primary Purpose The Senior Scrum Master is a member of an agile team, primarily focused on complex and strategic work products with responsibility for facilitating the Scrum process and the overall health of their product team. Proactively anticipates problems, opportunities for improvement, and conducts planning activities so team can focus on delivering its sprint commitments. Uses agile methods and processes to coach team and Product Owner through complex problem solving and solutioning strategies. Works on teams that are delivering complex and/or strategic work products, requiring relationship development with many vendors, clients, and leadership to advocate for the team, navigate organizational dynamics, and remove impediments to facilitate team's success. Provides coaching to the team, and develops team towards maturity in Scrum and Agile ways of working. Duties and Responsibilities Supports Product Owner with respect to grooming/refining and maintaining product backlog, ensuring that user stories (i.e., a short description of a small piece of desired system or software functionality) it contains are ordered, well defined, and ready to be worked on by the team. Fosters understanding and clarification in regards to work items (user stories, features, and epics) and team members' work commitment to maximizing value delivered. Anticipates potential problems, addresses complex impediments and assists team in identifying a path forward to deliver on their sprint commitments. Builds a culture of trust and safety on the team, addressing any tensions or conflict appropriately as it arises. Utilizes comprehensive understanding of agile principles and facilitation skills to ensure everyone on the team is working in an agile mindset and utilizing scrum practices and values. Helps team to identify any areas of improvement for team or individuals and facilitates interactive and action-oriented discussions to drive continuous improvement. Continuously assesses team maturity, providing feedback/coaching to develop the team, and helping the team apply the lessons learned for that improvement. Facilitates team ceremonies: Daily Standup, Refinement, Sprint Planning, Retrospective, and Demonstration. Facilitates clear communication and transparency with internal and external audiences, sharing information appropriately and succinctly. Represents team in Scrum of Scrums ceremony (i.e., a technique for coordinating work across multiple agile teams to ensure the integration of each teams output in the overall solution) by bringing questions, impediments and risks to discuss and resolve with the other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the group and organization. This includes discussions around culture change, group maturity, and continuous improvement ideas. Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties). Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, related field or equivalent training and/or experience. 5 years - Related work experience in Project or Product Delivery, Product Management, Software Project Delivery, IT and/or Business Operations or related equivalent experience. Collaboration: Ability to participate in co-operative working relationships including knowledge sharing and partnership in achieving solutions within and across business or operational functions. Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of concepts, including Agile Scrum and/or Kanban, and application of Agile methodology (e.g., Lean, SAFe, LeSS) for project management to be able to design, implement and manage projects. Facilitation: Ability to lead impactful meetings, optimize group processes, foster collaboration, and assist a group or team in understanding and achieving their objectives. Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire. We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays. Preferred Qualifications 1 year - As a Scrum Master for a delivery team that was actively applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory preferred. 2 years - Experience with Agile frameworks such as Agile Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, LeSS. Agile Scrum, Product Owner or Scrum Master certifications such as Certified Scrum Master. DevSecOps Methodologies: Strong understanding of processes and concepts to drive the integration of development, operations, and security into enterprise software development to produce better outcomes. Work Tracking Tools: Knowledge and use of work management tracking applications such as Azure DevOps Boards, Jira, Confluence. May require work outside of normal business hours and/or 24/7 response availability for system and application maintenance, enhancements, production releases and/or operational emergencies.
