About the role
As an SAP Finance Functional Architect, you will be responsible for defining, governing, and optimising the end-to-end SAP Finance solution architecture across the enterprise. This is a senior, strategic role with design authority over core Finance processes, ensuring scalable, standardised, and compliant SAP S/4HANA Finance solutions that align with long-term transformation objectives.
You will act as the primary functional authority for Finance, working closely with SAP Product teams, Centres of Excellence, Business Process Owners, and transformation programmes to guide solution decisions across Order-to-Cash (OtC), Record-to-Report (RtR), and Procure-to-Pay (PtP).Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end SAP Finance functional architecture across OtC, RtR, and PtP.
  • Translate business strategy and process requirements into scalable SAP S/4HANA Finance solutions.
  • Maintain the Finance solution blueprint, global standards, and functional guardrails.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and SAP best practices.
  • Establish and enforce global Finance design standards.
  • Govern changes to Finance processes through formal design authority forums.
  • Drive process harmonisation across operating entities to maximise reuse and minimise customisation.
  • Provide expert guidance on SAP Finance capabilities and best-practice process design.
  • Partner with SAP Product Managers and Centres of Excellence to ensure consistent solution design and backlog prioritisation.
  • Support product teams during refinement, solutioning, configuration, and functional testing.
  • Review and approve functional specifications, configuration decisions, and enhancement requests.
  • Act as functional lead across major initiatives including S/4HANA, Central Finance, Group Reporting, Tax, Treasury, and BTP extensions.
  • Support programme streams with solution design, data mapping, integrations, testing, and cutover activities.
  • Identify and resolve functional dependencies and design risks.
  • Ensure Finance master data, transactional structures, and reporting hierarchies align with global standards.
  • Oversee functional aspects of integrations across SAP and non-SAP systems (e.g. CPI, APIs, banking platforms, tax engines).
  • Support the design of analytics, KPIs, group reporting, and compliance-related reporting structures.
  • Act as a trusted functional advisor to Finance leadership, Global Process Owners, and business SMEs.
  • Facilitate solution design workshops and capability assessments.
  • Ensure functional designs meet quality, audit, control, and compliance requirements.
  • Support testing cycles (SIT, UAT, regression), training validation, and business readiness activities.
Requirements
  • Deep SAP Finance functional expertise across Order-to-Cash, Record-to-Report, and Procure-to-Pay.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP S/4HANA Finance, including: Universal Journal, Financial Accounting (FI), Management Accounting (CO), Asset Accounting, Group Reporting
  • Proven experience in functional architecture or senior functional design roles.
  • Strong understanding of SAP best-practice processes and end-to-end cross-functional integration.
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-entity, global transformation environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to act as a design authority and make strategic, governance-driven decisions.
Nice to have
  • Experience with SAP RISE, Central Finance, BTP, BRF+, tax engines, or Treasury solutions.
  • Exposure to regulatory, audit, and internal control frameworks (e.g. SOX, IFRS).
  • SAP Finance certifications.
  • Experience working in regulated, multi-market, or highly governed organisations.
