About the position

The Senior Clerk Typist will have the primary responsibility of supporting the building or department supervisor in ensuring the day-to-day functions of the building/department run smoothly. The Senior Clerk Typist will also have the primary responsibility of being the 'face' of the building/department and ensuring all patrons receive a warm and friendly greeting. This Result-Oriented Job Description is in conjunction with the job description provided by the Wayne County Civil Service. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the day-to-day functions of the building/department are accomplished by making decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare various documents including word-processed documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Assign and review work for other clerical staff, including regular, seasonal, temporary, or substitute employees.
  • Review claim forms and other documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformity with established procedures.
  • Maintain financial records for the building/department or other organizations or groups affiliated with the building/department.
  • Maintain payroll and timesheets for applicable employees.
  • Maintain records and files pertinent to the building/department.
  • Coordinate with vendors and other outside agencies who conduct business in the building/department.
  • Attend meetings and keep meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate substitutes and coverage for employees who are not in attendance.
  • Assist the Transportation Department with transportation-related matters when assigned to various offices.
  • Ensure all parents, students, community members, employees, and visitors experience the Pal-Mac Way by greeting them with a friendly attitude and providing customer service.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and utilize skills to de-escalate situations.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of clerical experience.
  • Training/experience in the operation of word processing equipment or personal computers.
  • Must hold a current Civil Service classification as a Clerk Typist or Senior Clerk-Typist or be willing to take the test when next available.
