About the position

Norfolk Southern Corporation is currently seeking a Data Visualization PPM Administrator responsible for maintaining IT PMO system landscape including PPM tool administrator and reporting. This includes performing PPM application administrator functions, serving as the lead contact with the software vendor, supporting PPM end-users and producing project portfolio reports. The role requires strong technical capabilities in addition to functional capabilities. This role is responsible for building and deploying visual products which can include performance management tools, self-service reports, exception-based dashboards, and automated insights within PMO. This position is expert in data storytelling and dashboarding solutions that help operationalize analytical insights to drive performance with PMO. This role will collaborate with IT, NS business stakeholders and third parties to gather data needs for reports, running insights into action and supporting data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong drive to learn the business outcomes expected to inform how to create a data visualization narrative.

Responsibilities

  • Leads data visualization strategy, storytelling, and project execution for internal and external audiences across the organization.
  • Develops and implements design standards and best practices to grow the data visualization practice.
  • Maintains the IT PMO system landscape understanding system architecture and data across the various systems.
  • Assists with optimization of the system landscape providing the most efficient and effective user experience for IT Leadership, Management, and the overall user base.
  • Develops decommission plan for systems and data when applicable and lead the decommission effort.
  • Provides expertise to troubleshoot, determine root cause and resolve complex PPM application problems engaging vendor and escalating as necessary for issue resolution.
  • Works with vendor to configure and implement system modifications when needed.
  • Keeps all environments ensuring consistency of configuration and data across environments (Testing/Training & Production).
  • Creates PPM reports and dashboards working with key stakeholders to define requirements and ensure standardization across various groups and stakeholders using PowerBI.
  • Strengthen awareness and adherence to PPM processes through periodic communications to reinforce appropriate usage of processes.
  • Serves as the primary backup and provide assistance when required for functional PPM Administration duties including conducting User Administration functions, maintaining PPM user license counts and projections, ongoing creation of projects, resources and other system entities, monitoring, maintaining and reporting on Resource Management, monitoring processing of weekly timesheets, identifying discrepancies and troubleshooting issues towards resolution, monitoring integrity of project information maintained in the PPM data repository, developing training materials and providing training to users, assisting PMs and other users with basic functions of the system.
  • Defines data requirements, gather and mine large scale of structured and unstructured data, and validate data.
  • Works directly with business partners to understand the business needs and translating those needs into analytic solutions.
  • Serves as a technical resource and subject matter expert for data visualization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5-10 years experience in a Data Analysis, Administration, and/or Engineer developing reports and dashboards in Power BI.
  • Advanced Power BI design and development.
  • Experience turning complex data into clear, visual stories that deliver actionable insights and drive business decisions.
  • Working level knowledge of SQL preferred (basic queries).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (macros, vlookups, pivots).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing reports and dashboards in SpotFire, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Experience presenting and communicating with executive stakeholders.
