Job Summary:A member of Vail Finance organization, the Shared Services Team is committed to transactional excellence. The Senior Manager Payroll is a crucial resource providing leadership support for all aspects of payroll processing for Vail Resorts employees and outsourced teammates. This leadership role partners with HR, IT, field operations, Finance, and 3rd party vendors to continually elevate the Employee Experience and set the stage for global expansion of the Payroll function.

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $107,222.17 - $145,023.62 + annual bonus

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expert guidance for integration of mergers and acquisitions, implementation of new systems (Workday), building a Global Payroll operating model, and ad-hoc projects.
  • Build and execute strategy for Payroll Services that positively impact the moments that matter through an employee’s life cycle
  • Accountable for payroll processes and procedures for routine process, tax reporting and internal financial requirements for approximately 50,000 employees (at season height)
  • Foster a client-focused environment and mindset to ensure delivery of an exceptional employee experience
  • Develops and implements the processes necessary to ensure appropriate standards are in place to evaluate and optimize payroll processing and tax service quality; including monitoring and management of performance metrics and KPIs
  • Consults, advises and collaborates with HR, Finance, and business leadership to identify operational improvements
  • Identifies service trends and performs root cause analysis, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance processes, increase quality and reduce operating expenses
  • Champion the department’s process improvement efforts to drive efficiency and accuracy with a focus on ensuring strong controls are in place
  • Have knowledge and insight into laws and regulations impacting the payroll function to ensure compliance with the operation.
  • Summarize impact, develop recommendations and review impacts with key internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate and oversee audit activities, including SOX compliance, with the internal and external audit teams

Job Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in Payroll, Payroll Accounting, Human Resources or translatable work experience
  • Proven experience leading global payroll across both in‑house and outsourced delivery models, including coordination across regions, time zones, and regulatory environments.
  • 3+ years leadership experience managing high performing teams
  • Experience leading both insourced (in‑house) and outsourced (BPO/vendor‑managed) teams in a shared services or operational environment.
  • Experience with Workday, Experian, Equifax, Dayforce, PeopleSoft and other common Payroll software strongly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; intermediate to advanced excel skills
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team with a focus on team engagement and development
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt quickly to changing business needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of business stakeholders

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $107,222.17 - $145,023.62 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
