This role primarily covers the geography of Manhattan and Long Island (with some accounts in Connecticut and Rhode Island), with a preference for candidates within 1 hr of New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely and effectively with a wide array of teams as an overlay sales specialist, including marketing, local Territory Account Managers, Insides Sales Reps, other Specialists (informatics, microarray, etc), and District Sales Managers to support them in achieving strategic and revenue goals.
  • Assists District Sales Manager and Territory Account Managers with the development of customized territory plans yearly and quarterly, including target markets, overarching strategy, on-the-ground sales tactics, and how to approach new customers.
  • Regularly meets with customers both individually and as an Illumina team.
  • Prepares and presents compelling technical seminars on Illumina Sequencing product lines and sequencing applications.
  • Develops long-term customer relationships as a trusted consultant - always brings value to a customer interaction.
  • Connects customers when appropriate with internal teams.
  • Ensures that the sales team they are a part of is trained on all relevant technical, product, method and application information.
  • Represents the company professionally, scientifically, and ethically at all times.
  • Leverages technical knowledge to further sales.
  • Rapidly becomes an expert on new Illumina innovations and products, often within a few days of launch.
  • Reads, understands, and communicates current scientific and clinical research.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of the market environment, competition, industry trends, and 3rd party methods and applications.
  • Regularly trains others in the sales team on products, methods, and markets.
  • Assists with and develops workshops, seminar series, and other marketing activities as required.
  • Distinguishes between regular sales and business development opportunities.
  • Involves the correct internal partners as appropriate.
  • Proactively uses and supports the expanded network of national and global sequencing specialists.
  • Coordinates and communicates strategic business plans effectively to manager and internal stakeholders.
  • Advises internal teams with deep product, customer, market, and application knowledge.
  • Participates in customer facing company events such as conferences, user group meetings and other similar forums.
  • Leads without authority. Maintains positivity. Inspires peers, customers, and collaborators with a passion for Illumina technology.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or MS or equivalent degree in Life/Biological Sciences is required.
  • Ph.D. or Masters in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or related field is highly desired.
  • MBA is a plus.
  • Technological expert on the majority of relevant Next Generation Sequencing and multiomic applications, basic informatics, and the clinical and research sequencing markets.
  • Customer-facing sales or support experience in the Life Sciences or Genomics preferred.
  • Presentation experience. Capable of delivering a persuasive message by integrating sales and technical acumen.
  • Comfortable interacting with audiences of different levels.
  • Learns quickly and independently.
  • Able to develop and maintain deep current knowledge of multiomics and sequencing applications.
  • Highly self-motivated, independent, adaptable, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment.
  • Driven. Strong desire to win business and establish long term customer relationships.
  • Team player. Reliable individual with excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
