About the position

The Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) at TEN is responsible for securing contracts and cultivating customer relationships in the Washington DC/MD/VA region. This role focuses on driving business opportunities related to energy efficiency solutions for public sector, higher education, healthcare, and commercial customers. The BDM will utilize a consultative approach to identify potential business targets and communicate client objectives to technical teams, ensuring alignment with client needs and TEN's capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Qualifying, pursuing, and securing new business with assigned local and municipal targets in the Washington DC/MD/VA area.
  • Developing an understanding of prospective customers' business objectives to offer aligned solutions.
  • Collaborating with TEN's technical team to identify and develop solutions that meet customer needs and demonstrate TEN's value.
  • Working with technical teams and business partners to develop contract approaches and strategies for securing new business.
  • Identifying potential business targets through direct selling, leveraging relationships, and attending trade shows and industry conferences.
  • Understanding various business models offered by TEN to address specific customer objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field.
  • Ten or more years of consultative sales experience, preferably in construction, energy services, or building solutions markets.
  • Familiarity with state and federal legislation pertaining to procurement.
  • Ability to effectively present information to customers and stakeholders.
  • Effective consultative, value-based sales, development, negotiation, and closing techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Basic understanding of business finance and accounting.
