About the position

The Sr Own Brand & Sourcing Manager is r esponsible for establishing a member-centric top and bottom-line growth strategy for Own Brand products within a category set and building a product portfolio and vendor matrix to deliver against goals. Leads a cross functional Own Brand team and the merchandising organization to build the strategy, positioning, financial, operational and packaging plans for OB products. Identifies, partners and negotiates with suppliers to deliver on project goals. Prioritizes and project manages a roadmap of initiatives in support of OB strategic and financial goals.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the OB team and merchandising partners to establish a member-centric, category-level OB growth strategy along with financial and operational plans to position BJs Own Brands to delight our members, win in the market and deliver strong financial performance
  • Leverages a broad base of member, financial and marketplace data and insights to define product positioning (product, pricing, promotions, merchandising, packaging) that will deliver Own Brand top and bottom line growth
  • Leads the cross functional team across merchandising, planning and allocation, product development, quality and marketing to deliver on the project roadmap. Acts as the key connector between the merchant team and OB team, representing the voice of the member in decision making
  • Defines the sourcing strategy for the category/project. Establishes and manages the vendor matrix to meet current and future product and operational needs, achieve strong profitability, provide contingencies and manage risk
  • Negotiates product cost based on a strong understanding of cost drivers including the product, geography, packaging, shipping, transportation, order volumes and frequency to deliver strong value to BJs members and profitability to the business
  • Partners with members of key functions (merchandising, digital, marketing, pricing) to activate the brand and products in support of its goals (packaging, site experience, promotions, marketing)
  • Measures performance against the plan and leads partners to take action in launching and growing engagement with Own Brand products.
  • Leads the packaging development for Own Brand products with strong competitive benchmarking to develop compelling, simple-to-navigate packaging; establishes the messaging hierarchy, photography/illustration direction, desired claims and partners with suppliers and quality team to validate accuracy
  • Leads the cross functional team to prepare for key stage gate decision points to ensure the right data informs actions
  • Partners with merchant leadership (SVPs, VPs and Divisionals) to establish a healthy culture for Own Brands and a strong sense of accountability within the merchandising organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Business, Science or related field
  • >8-10 Years experience in a merchandising, own brand or consumer packaged goods brand management function
  • Track record of driving exceptional results in a cross functional environment
  • Analytical strength across a wide variety of data and inputs and the ability to distill data into insights to inform member-centric decision making in product and packaging design
  • Strong strategic orientation, thought leadership and financial acumen
  • Capable of defining and driving change while enrolling others
  • ‘One-team’ mentality focused on what’s best for our members and total BJs in decision making
  • Exceptional prioritization ability focused on delivering against most important outcomes
